Life Update – Going Freelance

Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since I posted something along the lines of a life update and wanted to just jump on here for that. I know when I originally started most of my outfit posts revolved around my life and what I was doing versus just strictly what I like to wear. Whether it was just going shopping or running errands or even what I did that weekend (even if it was nothing). I was getting nostalgic looking back at old posts and how much I shared about what was going on in my life. I think that’s what really drew me to blogging in the first place so I really want to reconnect with that now.

So as noted in the title of this post, I have recently had a bit of a life update in regards to me recently going freelance. A lot of people probably don’t know that up until this point in time I was working full time as a Marketing Manager for a beauty company. I felt like most people were aware but again, I didn’t really post much about my work place on my blog or Instagram so it probably did get missed by many of you. I decided to finally take the leap this October and have been flying solo ever since. My husband left his job 2 years ago to pursue freelance as well but it wasn’t the right path for him at the time. After a lot of talking and planning we decided it would be my turn to give it a shot after we closed escrow on our home. Since they want to see your job history it just made sense for me to basically continue working until we were fully in our home.

I absolutely love Marketing and loved the job I was at so it was definitely tough to say goodbye. This was my longest stint at a job with me being there almost 3 years. Most jobs ended at around 1 year for me. I’m pretty hard on myself when it comes to ensuring I’m at the top of my game and it got to a point where I felt my day job and my blogging were both slipping. Knowing that both positions were growing it was time to make a change. I decided that it was now or never to pursue this thing and see where it takes me. The benefit of having all of my previous work experience is that if this doesn’t really fit how I like I can always go back to a full-time gig probably without much fuss. While my first month came really strong I have started to see a bit of a lull this past month of November and while that’s just like any business (seasonality) it definitely takes a toll on you mentally. I’ve prided myself on feeling secure in the amount of money I make and all of my passion and efforts I put into my work so having this feeling of unknown is really daunting. Maybe I’m just so used to the monotony of that bi-weekly paycheck but it’s definitely something I knew I’d struggle with, I just didn’t think it would come this fast.

I’m taking this opportunity as a huge learning experience and luckily I have my husband backing me up on this and making it easier for us to make the leap knowing he is working full time somewhere. I’ve been pushing myself to try new things (IGTV and YouTube coming soon) and start exploring the creativity I always felt was repressed due to the time restraints of being in an office all day. I’m hoping you guys will enjoy the journey and hopefully enjoy the content I’m putting out there. But for now I’ll try and keep you updated on what’s going on in life!
