Tips for Holiday Decor on a Budget

It’s that time of year again! I’m always super bummed when October comes and goes (my Birthday plus all the spookyness) but it means that the Holidays are around the corner! I’ve always loved decorating or the Holidays but my previous places haven’t been my favorite to decorate. Now that I have my new place and there’s a lot more light and space I can’t wait to fill it with some decor! But before I get ahead of myself I also am very aware that you can’t just fill an entire space with fun holiday decor, I for one definitely have a budget to stick to when it comes to buying pieces and I like to do it gradually year after year. I’ve compiled a few tips as I begin to fill my home with some holiday cheer on what kind of pieces you should be purchasing to get the most bang for your buck when decorating your home!

Holiday Greenery

What packs the biggest punch in my opinion is always greenery! It not only screams “holiday” but it also adds some color and brightness to your space. A lot of my favorite pieces are usually garland inspired and there are so many variations that can fit the decor style of a ton of spaces. I purchased a light up garland a few years back and it’s been tried and true for me. It not only adds some festive appeal to shelves, tv stands, or staircases but it also adds additional lighting that is always fun to have for the holidays.

Signage and Sayings

I think another strong way to fill your space with a festive punch is to grab a piece of cute signage that matches your space. For me, little wood placards or framed art prints are fun to throw up for the season and add a nice touch to the space. It also can add some color and really send your holiday message to any visitors.

Lights!

The easiest and cheapest way to add a holiday decor element are lights. They make some great LED and energy efficient lights that are perfect to throw into any space. For me, adding small string lights along shelves, bookcases, bowls, clear vases, etc just adds an extra element to your space and makes it feel even cozier!

Most of us have either a bed or a couch they can add a touch of holiday cheer to and I find one of the easiest ways is getting a festive pillow or blanket. You can either get something more subtle with a plaid print or red and green coloring or go all out with themed holiday! It really changes up your space in the simplest way. Plus they are pretty simple to store away for next year. I try to keep all of my decorations in only 1 or 2 bins. Now I do have a smaller space so for me this just makes things easier but I’m sure as my space grows I’ll have to expand that number slightly haha.

Last but not least I find it important to get a few little decor elements that you can add onto a coffee table, tv stand, shelf, kitchen counter, that really brings in some warmth without being overwhelming! One of my favorite things to purchase are sets that include multiple pieces, ie. these trees you see above that you can set in various places around your home or room!
