Parisian Mid Century Modern Home Decor (Wishlist)

I’ve been casually referencing that I’m soon to be a homeowner but as the days are quickly approaching to move in I can’t help but be super excited and actually ready to fully share with everyone!

It’s been a tough process since we are purchasing a new build and have had a few setbacks but I’m excited to say we (hopefully) are going to be moving in at the end of June. With that being said, I have been eagerly searching high and low for home decor inspiration. The best part about actually moving into your own home is that you have so much more control. We already picked out our floorings and counter tops and now have our (almost) perfect blank canvas to start adding furniture to. My husband and I have been living in apartments the past 5ish years so we really have a weird array of furniture. Some are hand me downs and some are our early Ikea purchases when we first moved out back in 2013. Alongside that, we have collected a few more “grown up” pieces of furniture that have a higher quality and price tag to them. With this move we are planning on completely eliminating about 90% of our current furniture since it probably won’t survive our move anyway.

Having a blank canvas can be fun but also intimidating. While we aren’t planning on purchasing everything right off the bat there are still a few items that you will need to have ready for move in. I’m hoping to go with a Parisian Mid Century Modern home decor theme for my house that mixes some classical elements (think gold and ornate) with more mid century (woods and classic structure) alongside a few modern day pieces. Decorating can come at a hefty cost, especially when you are starting from scratch so I have to remember to pace myself and know that I have to be completely IN LOVE with a piece in order for me to purchase. I figured the 2 main rooms that I”ll have to focus my attention on first will be the living room and my bedroom. I should probably have a whole other post focused on my office but honestly I haven’t even thought that far ahead. Having a smaller goal to focus towards makes things feel a lot easier and less pressure. Here’s a little look into my wishlist for my future living room and bedroom. Note that my entire house will have medium dark laminate floors that look like wood so you can get the vibe from that 😉

Living Room

For the living room I really want to have a mix of ornate rugs, mid century colored furniture and of course a lot of artwork. I’d have to say artwork is the hardest for me to collect, I think I just have trouble putting artwork before other things (like pillows or something) so it gets to be an after thought. It also takes time to accumulate and since in our past apartments we’ve avoided hanging too many things (patching sucks) this is the perfect opportunity to slowly expand our collection!

Bedroom
For our bedroom I want a good mix of classic furniture that has a bit of a masculine touch so I can add more feminine touches with the bedding and decor. We have upgraded from our current bedroom situation of Ikea furniture since most likely than not it won’t make it in the move.
