Long weekends are rare if any but when they do come around, they are usually productive. An addition to my Saturday and Sunday this week included Presidents Day. The three day weekend gave me ample opportunity to shoot a few looks and explore the surrounding cities of Orange County. Downtown Santa Ana proved to be the perfect background for my grunge inspired outfit. Usually the look I run towards when I’m feeling a laid back or lazy day. My favorite piece are my leggings which I found for a steal at $5 a few years back, before the entire pleather legging craze came into play. Definitely in need of a new pair since these have been worn down to bits but it’s one of those pieces you can’t seem to part with. I love mixing male clothing into my outfits, something I’ve been doing since High School. I used to crave for women’s and junior clothing to be baggier and I am so glad that became the new trend, never had been one for that tight t-shirt look. I’m glad I now have a boy to steal clothes from instead of shopping in the Target men’s department, he has better style anyways. In this look I paired my H&M denim jacket with my boyfriends over sized plaid woven shirt, I also tend to throw on statement necklaces to make myself feel more girly. Who would have thought you could be stylish AND comfortable.

It’s one of those days that only California has, sunny and 70 degrees in the midst of February. After spending the past week and a half following NYFW from across the country it made me appreciate having sunny weather versus dealing with a blizzard. Me and my boyfriend went out apartment hunting and decided to shoot a few looks down by Seal Beach. I purchased this jacket almost two years ago and haven’t used it to it’s fullest potential. Usually it’s too lightweight for a cool evening but gets too hot when it’s over 75 degrees. The perks of being close to the beach is that the weather calls for lightweight jackets when the breeze picks up. I also convinced my boyfriend to take a few pictures as well, I enjoy being behind the camera sometimes. His blue woven was designed by himself for DC Shoe Co, explains why we are meant to be.

Rise and Shine

It’s not usual for me to have such an earthy vibe but with the cold weather in Southern California lately I’ve had to limit myself to the minimal amount of sweaters I can find in my closet. As much as I love wearing sweaters, there isn’t much use when you live in an area that normally has 70 degree weather and up all year round. I was itching to wear my new denim blazer that I purchased at the Melrose Trading Post for $14 bucks. One of the best places to not only find cheap clothes but also rad home accessories. My sister always laughs when I buy jackets or dresses with shoulder pads, when you’re slim it looks a little strange to have Hulk like shoulders. I couldn’t resist the boyfriend look and the “business casual” look that the denim screams. I really wanted to pair it with leggings and a graphic tee but extra layering was needed so I went with my Bambi sweater dress from H&M, the perks of having a sister who works there. While some were confused by the mismatched look I really enjoyed it, I don’t believe in the general rules of “matching” anyways.

Mod Spring Fashion

Spring is slowly approaching and I couldn’t be happier. Long sleeve shirts and high waisted shorts, what I plan on making my staple items with the warm Southern California weather we should be expecting. Black, baby pinks, whites and clear, my color palette for spring. I’ve been inspired by the new lines from Wildfox, Jeffrey Campbell, Nasty Gal, and Gypsum Style. Clear accessories in my mind are a must, brings about that clean feeling that arises with April showers and May flowers. I like to keep the edge in my wardrobe as always, what better way than with leather shorts overalls from Gypsum Style? Another must have that I’m itching to buy is a white body con maxi, I find maxi dresses beyond sexy and white really works for me, but that might be because of my darker skin tone. I love mixing styles and colors, I can never stick to just one and I don’t think you should have to.

It’s a very Jeffrey Campbell Christmas

Merry Christmas and a happy new pair of shoes! I was graced this year with a new pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s, the Carter Peep Oxfords to be exact. There are few items that I will willingly splurge on. These include sunglasses, shoes or a good purse. Any shoes over $60 have to be of good quality and unique enough for me to justify. Any shoes over $120 have to be Jeffrey Campbell’s. Luckily my boyfriend was lovely enough to give me these beauties on sale and the last pair! Their unique styles and sky scraping heels can make any legs look long and lean, not to mention turning heads for those folk who could “never pull that off”. The greatest part about their shoes is the ease of wear. Shoes can be dressed up or down and can be worn for hours on end without wanting to rip your feet off. Best of all their shoes match every aspect of my wardrobe whether it is an edgy, punk, or girly look, Jeffrey Campbell’s can spice up your outfits and wardrobe. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, hope your season has been fashion filled.

Holiday Wear Can Keep You Warm AND Fashionable

The holiday season is filled with good cheer and lots of hot cocoa. But holiday fashion isn’t that much different from every day fashion. Whether you think you can or not, you can get the holiday style that makes you feel good and look great. With a few simple little tricks, you can turn any piece into holiday wear and strut your stuff with an outfit that doesn’t actually take hours to put together, but will look like it did.

With the holidays upon us, you may be looking in your closet thinking that you have nothing to wear. Stop dreaming of a complete wardrobe makeover and create one with the things already hanging in your closet.

Here’s what you do: Grab those old comfy jeans that fit oh so nicely and pair it with a plain colored sweater, maybe a shimmery gold or silver. Even white can be festive and allows more room for accessorizing. With the foundation done, I want you to grab a vibrant scarf. There are literally hundreds of new ways to tie this time-honored accessory, so feel free to find the one you like best. Since you’re dressing for the holidays, you’ll need to dress this outfit up. A thick belt goes nicely over a sweater and can really pull the look together. Add a pair of sparkly earrings for a festive feel. Next, you’ll need something for your feet. Nothing goes better with jeans than the perfect pair of shoes. A nice 2″ heel will give you a little lift and dress your outfit up a bit. Be sure that you have a purse in a coordinating, yet not entirely matching shade. This will create a casual yet somehow dressy look that will go great for any holiday gathering.

Need something a little more dressy yet not altogether fancy? Start with a pair of dark colored jeans and top it with a warm and cozy turtleneck. Add some sparkle with a chunky necklace and pair of glittery earrings. Don’t forget the bangles. A series of coordinating bracelets will announce your arrival in chic style. A pair of sassy pumps tells the world you’re in the spirit and ready to spread good cheer, while looking fabulous by the way. Top this ensemble off with a cozy peacoat and you’re ready to take on the season.

Accessories really are the key to success with any fashionable look. Be sure you stock up on scarves in a variety of colors and materials, a nice pair of leather gloves, shiny metallic jewelry and a hat that will turn heads.

Looking great and feeling good this holiday season doesn’t require a wardrobe overhaul. While we would all love to say “Out with the old, in with the new”, it’s not realistic for most of us. Add a few little twists to your existing wardrobe and you may only need to invest in a few accessories to make it perfect for the holidays. This year’s hot ticket items include a fabulous clutch, chunky necklace, diamond earrings–gold or silver bracelets and even leggings are making quite the comeback.

Wintertime can mean a darker sky, but you can still radiate your awesomeness with a touch of bold colors. Now get out there and take this season by storm!

Wanelo – New Social Media Fashion Site

Wanelo-LogoI was recently introduced to a new website called Wanelo. My constant pursuits of new inspiration for fashion has led me to websites like Lookbook and Pinterest but many times the items displayed are not given a link on where to purchase. Wanelo provides the same social media format as Pinterest but narrows down the content to clothing and accessories. As a member you can sign up, login, and post content. When opening a post you are able to “save”, “buy” or “tag” the item in question. What I like most about this website is its simplicity. The website layout is clean and easy to maneuver. Picture 13The products displayed can range from big name retailers or small Etsy websites. Either way it is an easy way to to filter through tons of styles and pick out your favorites. The ease of keyword searching can produce items for any type of style. My biggest concern and hesitation when first visiting the site was the homepage. It included a lot of “girly” items and threw me off with the lack of variety it gave me. The homepage is what sets a websites culture and to me, it wasn’t edgy enough. After searching particular keywords I was able to snatch up some pieces and become introduced to new online retailers. The price points for me are one of the biggest plusses. There is a wide range of pricing since a lot of the websites linked to items come from Ebay or Etsy which usually has a lower price point. Since I already maintain a large amount of accounts on social media sites I haven’t signed up for Wanelo but I have a feeling that I will be frequenting the website more and more to get new style inspiration. Cheers to that!

Retail Marketing Method: Don’t forget your student ID!

On one of my usual shopping expeditions a few days ago I entered into a store called Charlotte Russe to look for some garments for a halloween costume. To my avail they didn’t have what I was looking for, but something else occurred while I was there. An employee bounced up to me and informed me that if I had my student ID present with me I would get 10% off my purchase. If I didn’t happen to have my ID on me that was no problem either, if I had a smart phone I could get the coupon sent to me via text for the same amount. Wow, talk about tailoring to the student.

For clothing retailers this is a somewhat new marketing tactic. Retailers like Apple and Amazon have already had discounts for students since a lot of their products are useful to the typical “freshman”. (Laptops, Televisions, DVD players, electronics, etc.) Stores like Topshop have begun this tactic of student discounts both in-store and online while Urban Outfitters will provide the discount on select dates. Looks to me like student ID’s should be in wallets at ALL TIMES. This is the question that then comes to mind, why would retailers begin to take on this type of marketing?

To me, the reach that students have is TREMENDOUS. Just consider your own high school and/or college you have/are attending. Trends are easily found and created in schools. Being in close contact with your classmates 5 out of 7 days in the week can create a big influence on students. What better way to promote your clothing than to have students wearing it for some 4,000 kids to see. (Basing off of my high school student population) Not only do students have reach in person, but also online. It is almost a requirement for students to be active on social media whether it be a blog, Facebook, or Twitter. Lookbook has become a power house for retailers as free marketing and publicity. For the more popular Lookbook accounts and fashion bloggers it is common to see designers and retailers sending out clothes in hopes of them being photographed and seen by the huge amount of Lookbook users. These users not only hold immense power within the states but the demographics of users stretches over countless countries. Hey, these clothes could even go international!

I say this is a great incentive to bring in more traffic and purchases into retailers. Stereotyping college and high school students as with limited income as well as a craving desire to fit in with the trends you have a recipe for success. Remember kids, don’t leave your student ID’s at home, who knows when you can get some additional money off of those new boots you are drooling over for this fall season.
