Current Obsessions: Subtle Textures

Leather & Lace

Theres something about silky shorts and leather that makes me crazy. I’m on a hunt for a pair of shorts similar to the beautiful ones by Lover but are unfortunately not within my budget constraints. Along with pairing it with something structured like the leather top above, I would love to pair it with a few of my soft flowy tops from say Brandy Melville. These boots from Zara are on my “to buy” list and should be mine within the next few days.

Basics with a little flair are especially great to buy if you are running on limited funds. The pieces above may appear basic but the various textures and subtle details are what make them perfect additions to your closet. Happy Thursday!

3 Styles Featuring: Supra Skytop

I was graciously given a pair of these Supra Skytop shoes to style and instead of doing one outfit post I figured why not give three options to show their immense versatility. We all love the high-top look but a lot of times women feel they can’t pull them off. To that I say, nay! There are plenty of ways to wear these shoes for various occasions and to fit differing styles. The three looks I have included are, in short: trend, dressy, and casual.

Trend – For this look I stayed clean and classic with a sporty inspired look. I paired my white mesh jersey top from H&M and an old pair of white cargo shorts. To give the look some edge I threw on my H&M leather jacket and my Zara leather lunch bag purse. With clean white looks I love to add a splash of leather which in this case, jacket, bag, and shoes are a match.

Dressy – Time to ditch the heels for your next evening out. This look is inspired for your next date night or casual bar hopping with the girls. Throw on a skirt or dress with a short hemline, add a dash of statement jewelry (just a dash please) and a fun clutch. The Skytops give an illusion of a boot but with a little more street style.

Casual – For an easy way to wear these Skytops all you need is a pair of leather pants/leggings,muscle tee, and a beanie (if the weather allows it). I got this tank awhile back at Forever 21 and I must say I wish I was able to wear it everyday, or at least to work. Muscle tanks have to be one of my favorite pieces to wear on a hot day.

Be sure to grab a pair of Supra Skytops for yourself here and be on the lookout for more from Supra Women’s in their Fall 2013 Lookbook!

Frilly Metal Work

I am seriously in love with these new Zara sandals I purchased on sale. The simplistic straps and the metal work caught my attention immediately! Good thing too because I think these went fast online. I paired them with an H&M dress I purchased awhile back. I love the mesh overlay and if you look close enough, the embroidery includes butterflies and skulls :). The overcast weather forced me into my Cotton On army green shirt but I’m not one to complain, I like how the green of the jacket and the metal within the shoes gives me an industrial look of sorts. I love nothing more than to pair a frilly dress with some stern accessories to give it some edge!

Feeling a little dressy and a little dark today. Paired my Pacsun Kendall & Kylie cropped top with my LA Hearts bralette. To make the outfit a little more work appropriate I layered the bralette underneath. This is my absolute favorite maxi skirt. My sister purchased it from a thrift store and personalized it for me by cutting some slits into it. There’s something incredibly sexy about a little side slit action although, it’s funny to think that if I were to cut the skirt where the slits start it wouldn’t be half as sexy. The skirt material is extremely soft and silky, perfect for these hot days at the office!

The Cold Shoulder

First day back in the office after a weekend of casual attire means…I have no idea what to wear. When in doubt, I go for this high waisted pencil skirt. The length is perfect for work while still maintaining my age with a fitted look. This cold shoulder top has been holding a spot in the back of my closet as of late, but it has one of my favorite fits for a blouse. Usually I have trouble with blouses with them being either too heavy, see through, or too stiff and unmanageable to tuck in.

The shoulder cut off gives my work attire a stylish look without appearing too casual. With this skirt being so tight it is near impossible to tuck something into it unless it is fairly short and thin. (No one likes shirt bulge in their bottoms) To take full advantage of the slender silhouette of this skirt I tied the bottom of my top versus buttoning down. You also get a little bit of European holiday flair with it as well don’t you think?

Overalls & Stripes

I have been waiting for this outfit since the day I purchased this cropped top almost a year ago. You never realize how hard it is to find the perfect fit of overalls when you are scrounging through the Goodwill racks but it is difficult. Usually the legs are just too big for me. I just got back from Comic Con and was hoping to wear this outfit on my last day (Saturday) but the weather made a drastic shift from sunny and hot to overcast and breezy. Since it didn’t work out in SD I wore it running errands in Anaheim. I love all of the fun combinations I have been doing with these overalls. You can pair them with just about anything and you have a completely different look.

On a side note, I am used to being photographed when I cosplay at Comic Con but ironically I was asked to be photographed on Saturday. Before you say to yourself “well yeah, you were dressed up” note that I wasn’t dressed in costume. The girl actually has a street style blog for San Diego and wanted to include me in her blog. Pretty insane, I tell you, fashion never sleeps.

Blue Blazer

In a last minute frenzy to pack for Huntington Beach I grabbed the few pieces (and I mean few) that would help me beat the heat. While my ancient pair of Abercrombie shorts and my Brandy Melville tank are easy to wear to the beach it’s a little much (less) when your running around doing errands. I threw on my Royal Blue boyfriend blazer from H&M and GoJane studded booties for a very casual look. Bright colored blazers are perfect to wear when you need to dress up an outfit. I love mixing anything professional looking with something on the tattered side.

Ps. You don’t know how hard it is to find a good tank top. This Brandy Melville one I picked up is perfect. Cropped, tight, and strappy. Perfect for layering, especially with anything high waisted. You’ll be able to tuck without the bunch :)

Independence Day

As you can already tell, this post is all about Independence Day attire. My day would be spent BBQ-ing and hanging poolside with friends and playing with fireworks with my boyfriends family. While the temperature was going to be in the mid 80s it was the usual Southern California beach weather that would shift towards a cool evening by the time fireworks were ready to be lit. My new thrifted overalls made their second appearance as they are the perfect fit for an active day. I paired them with my new ASOS white v-neck tee which I might add is incredibly soft and loose fitting, my favorite when it comes to tees. The plaid flannel doubled as the perfect touch of red and the perfect jacket when it got cool out. Hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th!

Criss Cross Cropped

I would like to take a few minutes to discuss the amazing job that PacSun is doing in rebranding their stores. Their “Golden State of Mind” marketing campaign has brought them back to their roots as a California based retailer with heavy southern California beach babe vibes (for girls at least). Finally they have transitioned from graphic tees and into trendy cut and sew pieces for women. They were incredibly smart to capitalize on Kendall and Kylie Jenner as well, two young girls who are not only influential for their better known siblings (the Kardashians) but also for their modeling and fashion influence on the young girls/women in America. I picked up this cropped top on sale from their last collection. It fits incredibly well and is the perfect price point for young girls working on a weekly allowance (part of PacSuns target audience). I paired them with my thrifted high waisted Levis shorts and Platrane Jeffrey Campbell boots. A true hot California weekend look. Nothing better than throwing on some majorly distressed shorts and a cropped top. My signature outfit when the temp turns up.

Jersey Monochrome

I have styled this mesh jersey top from H&M in an earlier posting but decided to take a different route today to show it’s versatility. In my previous post I paired this jersey with some high waisted shorts and DC tennies, taking the jersey somewhat literally as we also shot the pictures on a baseball field. This jersey trend isn’t just for the ballpark however, today I transitioned the top into a chic and somewhat professional look for work. These black high waisted denim jeans from Urban Outfitters was one of my better purchases last year. The dark wash allows them to be disguised as “dressy” for work but when paired with a cropped top you can easily slip into a more casual overtone.

Accessories are what finish off this look. Gold, gold and well…more gold. Gold accessories are my favorite when I’m pushing a monochrome look. Adding a gold chain to a jersey top helps us understand why football players and baseball players wear those ridiculous gold chains around their necks, because it really does play off the jersey quite well. Maybe it is just the ridiculous notion that athletes make millions of dollars by throwing balls at one another but hey, it’s entertaining right?
