Closet Staples

November 21, 2020

Hello friends! I recently worked with Farfetch on a really fun article about my best investments and it really got me thinking about what my favorite pieces in my closet are. They obviously switch from season to season but there are a few staples that I know have grown my closet in so many ways. It’s also a question I get frequently in interview questions or an “ask me anything” kind of situation. With that being said here are a few of my closet staples that have been really wonderful for me!

The Basket Bag

I’ve seen the progression of basket bags over the years as they started from humble beginnings and expanded into more designer driven styles. I myself have the Jacquemus bag but another favorite is the Loewe basket bag. These are both really timeless pieces that will go with a multitude of looks. I’ve worn mine casually or dressy and while it might be more suited for Spring/Summer it’s also the perfect bag for a quick picnic down at the beach during the winter seasons (if you live in California at least).

Dr. Martens Derby Shoes

There are a ton of lug sole loafers and derby shoes circulating online and while I’d love to get my hands on a designer pair I also can’t express how much I wear this particular pair from Dr. Marten. These come in both mens and womens sizing and are probably one of my favorite shoes to wear right now. Just throw on some black or white socks with them and they can easily be worn with trousers, skirts or dresses. The price point is perfect plus I love the sole and contrasted yellow stitching that makes Dr. Martens so iconic.

Padded Shoulder Tank

So The Frankie Shop really knocked it out of the park with this one last year. I have to say it’s become one of my favorite tops to wear whether layered with a long coat or just tucked in to a pair of leather trousers. It’s really a versatile top that can go edgy or sleek. I know there have been a lot of replications of this top that can be found on Amazon etc but my heart will always be with the original Frankie Shop version. I have it in both black and white!

Padded Oversized Bag

This is a recent addition to my closet but it’s also already been used A TON. This padded hobo bag from Low Classic has been such a chic and easy everyday bag. I’ve transitioned back to really oversized bags but unfortunately there aren’t always chic ones. This one is the perfect mix of simplicity with a statement. It fits my reusable water bottle, hand sanitizers, masks, sunglasses and much more. I have to say it’s definitely worth it to have a bag that I feel can still be photographed with all my outfits but is super functional.

Duck Boots

The duck boot is a funny name but it’s definitely the best way to describe these. I recently got this pair of square toe boots from Miista and they have quickly become one of my most worn pairs of shoes. So if you couldn’t figure out why they are called a duck boot it’s mainly because the toe area looks like a duck bill. Aside from that, these boots are really flattering on and comfortable to walk around in. They hit perfectly mid length on my leg and I can wear them with a ton of pieces. I’m so happy I ended up choosing this pair.

White Ribbed Tank / True Blue Denim

One of my most worn pieces in my closet this year has 100% been a white ribbed tank top. To be more specific, a slightly cropped white ribbed tank. These are always the easiest to layer with and make an outfit edgy yet sexy. I have a few different pairs but you can usually find me wearing them under blazers or paired with trousers and boots.

My last closet staple will have to be this pair of Re/Done denim jeans. They have to be my new favorite pair because I am absolutely in love with the true blue hue to them. I go through phases of preferring a lighter wash, black denim, and now here I am loving this bright blue hue. Surprisingly they are really easy to pair with a ton of tops in my closet but my favorite way to wear them is just with a white tank top and black blazer.
