I’ve been searching for the perfect coat/blazer combo that brings me that oversized appearance of a coat with the structure of a blazer. Low and behold I find yet another great piece at Forever21 (They really are dragging me back in with their new buying methods). This is a jacket that can easily transition from Winter to Spring and I can’t wait to pair it with some distressed denim and a white tee. When you live in SoCal you need about one good Winter coat and the rest can be a hybrid considering there are only a few days where the temperature drops below 65. Gotta love California sometimes!
I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and that everyone has a safe New Years! So much has happened in 2014 not only did I learn so much about myself, my career, and what I want to ultimately do with my life but I also moved out for the first time, am the mom to a French Bulldog (one of my biggest dreams), and got engaged! All thats left to say is bring it on 2015!
Striped T-Shirt – Zara | White Buckle Culottes – Zara (SIMILAR) | Fringe With Benefits Velvet Slippers – LMN/ Luxe Me Now | Leather Jacket – H&M | Statement Bib Necklace – ASOS
I’m channeling my inner Dylanlex today with some metal and leather pieces. Theres nothing I enjoy more than oversized everything but I’ve contained myself slightly here with a more structured jacket and some skinny loafers. I really need to invest in some additional statement necklaces to pair with such simple outfits like this. I really can’t emphasize how much fun culottes are to pair with everything. Culottes look great styled with an oversized tee tucked in (as above) or with a fitted long sleeve turtle neck that you can tuck in. The opportunities are endless, not to mention they can transition easily from Winter to Spring, to Summer and back to Fall. Always stick with a neutral color and in my opinion I think a lighter neutral (white or camel) make more of a statement and bring out more details in the fabric.
It’s almost Christmas so you know what that means…after Christmas sales and gift cards/cash money to spend! I must say I”m really looking forward to scoring some deals after the Holidays. A great way to spend the New Year in my opinion! Have a safe and happy Holidays everyone!
Struggling with what to get your girlfriend, friends, cousins, aunts, mother this year for Christmas? Don’t worry we have all been there. I’m huge on giving thoughtful gifts that not only come from the heart but show that you’ve listened and most importantly remembered. Those few times you go out shopping with a friend and she exclaims how she adores that one humorous Ryan Gosling book or those pair of socks that look so comfy. Those are the moments when I immediately move to my phone and jot ideas down. You never know when you’ll need some gifting inspiration (even if its only July).
I’ve curated a few special pieces thanks to some of my favorite local brands to give you a gift of a relaxing evening in for that special someone in your life. What I enjoy doing is purchasing one bigger gift and finding little things to support it. Here’s what you’ll find in my gift bag:
– LMN Luxe Me Now Slippers: In this case these LMN Luxe slippers are my new favorites. I’m a fan of mules and smoking slippers so when I came across this brand on Instagram I knew I had to get a pair. They are extremely comfortable (with memory foam soles) and are fashionable enough to wear outside (which I definitely already have done).
– Knotty Jewelry: From there I grabbed a few pieces of fun jewelry and hair pieces from Knotty, a hair jewelry company that specializes in making adorable hairbands that you can actually leave on your wrist and it won’t throw off your entire outfit.
– Francesca’s Collections Mug: Another perfect piece for an evening in is a cute mug, in this case I have one with a Frenchie on it since I am obsessed with my dog, but one with a cute phrase is the perfect packaging for your new jewelry pieces.
– Barbara Eberhart Print: To polish off the gift I threw in a fun print perfect for a little nightstand accent.
Throw in some nail polish and a candle for fun stocking stuffers and your christmas shopping is complete!
I also highly recommend shopping small and local for your Christmas gifts, there’s nothing like spreading Christmas cheer to the little guys in this big retail world.
Finally am becoming a “local” in these parts. It has almost been a year since I moved into my apartment and I am finally getting to explore the surrounding area. While I’ve been introduced to a lot of new places there are still so many hidden gems within. The Noguchi Gardens is a quaint area between a sea of office buildings that is the perfect picturesque spot for some shadow play and sharp angle shots. Per usual I kept my tones pretty muted this weekend going a little bit for a female Indiana Jones. There’s nothing I enjoy more than a comfortable sweater that is easy to throw on with just about everything. Especially longline sweaters, they are perfect for paring with asymmetric skirts giving a little sharpness right above the knee. Grabbed this beaut during a recent trip to Cotton On (on sale for a ridiculous amount). Don’t worry, I still purchased some Christmas presents for OTHERS while shopping for myself at the same time. You know what they say, one for you, one for me!
I’ve been on the hunt for some new labels throughout the states that has some great minimalistic pieces to add into my growing collection of staple ‘basics’. My search ended up leading me to a few amazing overseas brands that are not only gorgeous but also decently priced (if you exclude shipping). Here are a few of my favorites that I recommend checking out!
If you’re looking for some incredible shoes and handbags Charles Keith is the place to shop. Along with their focus for accessories they also have a growing ready to wear line. I’m a huge fan of the minimalistic designer inspired pieces that are not only crafted beautifully but also only around $100 or less. I am always on the hunt for beautifully crafted designed pieces but still at a reasonable price (I know, I’m a dreamer right?) Be forewarned however that shipping to the U.S. for orders under $150 is about $35 so you might as well throw in a pair of shoes with that handbag.
Looking for designer ready-to-wear without the designer price tag? Look no further than the oversized monochromatic pieces from House of Sunny. This UK brand focuses on textures and asymmetric hemlines to bring some unique pieces to a minimalistic wardrobe such as mine.
This Canadian brand pulls together all of the laid back aspects of Brandy Melville and spices it up with a little bit of a more modern flair. From basic tees to tank dresses your sure to find something that fits a simplistic style arrangement. Not to mention they always seem to have great deals going on. If you’d like to shop a little more local (and with a little less postage cost) I would suggest checking them out.
I’ve never been much for a hat person until about a year ago, now, I don’t know what I’d do without them. Talk about the perfect solution to a bad (or flat in my case) hair day. After hopelessly searching for a more structured panama hat I came across the Gambler hat I have on but in grey. A few clicks later and I’m the proud owner of this beaut in taupe! With the recent rain and cold front in SoCal (thank you mother nature) I was able to pair my hat with a few simple staple pieces like my wrap coat and raw hem skinnies that, yes I cut myself. There’s just something I really enjoy about letting my ankles breathe.
