Criss Cross Cropped

I would like to take a few minutes to discuss the amazing job that PacSun is doing in rebranding their stores. Their “Golden State of Mind” marketing campaign has brought them back to their roots as a California based retailer with heavy southern California beach babe vibes (for girls at least). Finally they have transitioned from graphic tees and into trendy cut and sew pieces for women. They were incredibly smart to capitalize on Kendall and Kylie Jenner as well, two young girls who are not only influential for their better known siblings (the Kardashians) but also for their modeling and fashion influence on the young girls/women in America. I picked up this cropped top on sale from their last collection. It fits incredibly well and is the perfect price point for young girls working on a weekly allowance (part of PacSuns target audience). I paired them with my thrifted high waisted Levis shorts and Platrane Jeffrey Campbell boots. A true hot California weekend look. Nothing better than throwing on some majorly distressed shorts and a cropped top. My signature outfit when the temp turns up.

Jersey Monochrome

I have styled this mesh jersey top from H&M in an earlier posting but decided to take a different route today to show it’s versatility. In my previous post I paired this jersey with some high waisted shorts and DC tennies, taking the jersey somewhat literally as we also shot the pictures on a baseball field. This jersey trend isn’t just for the ballpark however, today I transitioned the top into a chic and somewhat professional look for work. These black high waisted denim jeans from Urban Outfitters was one of my better purchases last year. The dark wash allows them to be disguised as “dressy” for work but when paired with a cropped top you can easily slip into a more casual overtone.

Accessories are what finish off this look. Gold, gold and well…more gold. Gold accessories are my favorite when I’m pushing a monochrome look. Adding a gold chain to a jersey top helps us understand why football players and baseball players wear those ridiculous gold chains around their necks, because it really does play off the jersey quite well. Maybe it is just the ridiculous notion that athletes make millions of dollars by throwing balls at one another but hey, it’s entertaining right?

Summer Music Inspiration – Pharell Williams

Pharell Williams has been resurrected from the depths of producing music and is back on the forefront of the Billboard charts. His latest collaborations with Robin Thicke and Daft Punk are the perfect summer jams that make me feel like cruising in my car with the windows down and the wind in my hair. His beats never fail to get me up and dancing and his latest collab is a perfect example. I heard this song earlier this morning on Power 106 and I AM OBSESSED. Did I mention that the song includes Nelly and Nicki Minaj as well? Enough said, I KNOW.

Trending: The Oversized Clutch

If you are like me, you are slightly fearful of clutches. Not for their small size, but for their ability to get separated from you. Just like those parents who need to attach a leash to their kids, my purse needs to be at my side at all times. As a girl constantly on the go my purse seconds as a mini suitcase with all the necessary items needed incase of any type of emergency. I have however been warming up to the idea of clutches after seeing such chic (and much larger) pieces popping up online. Here are a few of my favorite trends:

It’s clean up day in the office and as a way to get everyone in the spirit we were allowed to dress casual. While I normally don’t wear jeans, I have gained a new love for this old pair of distressed jeans I used to wear in High School. For once my clothes hoarding has paid off! I paired them with my loose fitting white cropped tee and a Roxy jacket. I have ignored this jacket for way too long! It has a quilt like texture which keeps me warm and comfortable. Almost feels like I’m laying in bed….almost. The print is really subtle but adds a little pop to this somewhat basic outfit. I love purchasing good quality basic tops and bottoms which can be paired with fun prints within your wardrobe. I’m currently on a hunt for new jeans and basic tees to accent all the trend pieces I’ve been buying. Shopping is hard work!

Wedding Wear: Black & White Romper

This past Sunday was a whirlwind of decorating, love, and laughter as my father walked down the aisle for the second time marrying the new love of his life. I was actually planning on wearing a dress I already had for this beautiful day but to my surprise Mango was having an awesome sale and this black & white romper I had been eyeing was on a ridiculous clearance price. I just had to have it! It really worked out well considering it was 75+ degrees most of the day with no breeze. Setting up the wedding plus dancing the night away wouldn’t have been as easy had I worn the original dress I planned. I would highly recommend wearing a romper to a wedding or any other formal event. While it is a nightmare trying to use the restroom (especially if you are drinking) some of the rompers I have seen are so easy to dress up or down and especially since this was a more “laid back” affair it was the perfect fit. Don’t miss out on Mango’s sale! They have some awesome pieces!

ASOS T-Shirt Dress

Took a stroll around the swap meet at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds today. I found a really cute pair of overalls so it was worth the trip, not to mention it is a beautiful day outside. I have come across ASOS a few times over the past few months but never really dug deep enough into the site. Recently I have become obsessed with their pieces. I grabbed this cotton t-shirt dress and am so happy with it! It’s super comfortable and the fabric gives off a soft washed denim feel. I have a feeling I’ll be wearing this dress a lot considering you can throw it on so easily. I would definitely recommend ASOS for those who are looking for quality basic pieces at a good price.

Star Trecking: Galactic Denim

It’s finally Friday which means I can indulge in some printed denim at work! This Galactic print is so fun and exciting I kept my top half mellow with a chiffon blouse from Foreign Exchange and my LA Hearts Bralette from PacSun. You can’t really tell but the bralette is actually holographic which I thought would look rad with my new silver heels from Zara. Printed denim really makes me feel a tad bit wild and I think a lot of my coworkers agree.

Eccentric Short Suit & Work Attire

My entire wardrobe has made a complete 180 degree turn in comparison to a year ago. While I still indulge in a sometimes tasteless and overly revealing cropped top, graduating college and entering the workforce really puts a damper on your “free dress spirit”. Balancing work and school gave me an outlet to express myself without limitations while attending classes and bringing out my dressier side for work. It’s a difficult route for a fashionista considering you get inspired to wear certain things on certain days which might not always be deemed “appropriate” to stuffy corporate America.

I have really tried to embrace a new outlook on “work attire” and have been inspired by the Resort 2014 collections, specifically Rebecca Taylor. I have also noticed a few bloggers taking on this route, in particular Sincerely Jules and We Wore What caught my attention for their daring colors, smooth textures, and matching pieces.

Here are some of my inspiration pieces.

Corporate Casual

I finally received my new pair of Zara heels in the mail the other day, I immediately began running styling options through my head once I received them. I looked towards a casual style to mix up the dressiness and shine of the shoes. Believe it or not, all of these pieces are at least a year old. It is so refreshing to be able to incorporate older pieces in your closet that have been neglected. This is one of the ways that I keep myself sane if I am unable to head out for a shopping spree. Usually I hit the back of my closet for some inspiration and usually, it’s there to meet me halfway.
